Caramel Apple Cake is a light, moist cake made with fresh
granny smith apples topped with a decadent caramel frosting.

The texture of this cake puts me in the mind of a bread pudding. It is so light, fluffy, moist, and is just overall delicious!
We're using the simplest ingredients that you most likely have in your pantry so this can definitely be a go-to cake to make when you're having one of those crazy sweet tooth days.
Ingredients need to make the cake:
For the glaze:
- Powdered sugar
- Unsalted butter (melted)
- Milk
- Caramel
- Vanilla
Steps to make the cake:

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. Spray or oil a 12-inch pan.

In a large bowl, add the flour, baking soda, salt, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Whisk the ingredients together.

Add the melted butter to the bowl and stir together.

Add the hot water to the bowl and stir together.

Stir in the buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla.

Fold the apples into the mixture.

Pour the batter into your pan, spreading the mixture evenly.

Bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool while preparing the frosting.
Steps to make the glaze:
- In a medium-sized bowl, add the melted butter, milk, and powdered sugar. Whisk the ingredients together.
- Stir/whisk in the vanilla and caramel until combined.
- Pour evenly over the warm cake. Let set for about 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Of course we recommend using our caramel recipe for this cake. If you don't have the time or choose not to, store-bought caramel will work just as well.
