Ingredients needed for the cupcakes:
For the cupcakes:
- All-purpose flour
- Cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- Baking powder
- Salt
- Eggs (at room temperature)
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Vegetable oil
- Sour cream
- Vanilla
For the frosting:
- Butter (unsalted/at room temperature)
- Cocoa powder (unsweetened)
- Powdered sugar
- Vanilla
- Heavy Cream
Steps to make the cupcakes:
To make the cupcakes:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Add the muffin liners to your muffin pan. In a large bowl, add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk the ingredients together.
In a separate bowl, add the vegetable oil, vanilla, and eggs mixing together. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients adding the sour cream last. Mix together until combined.
Scoop the batter into your individual muffin liners filling them about halfway to allow room for them to rise.
Bake for approximately 18 minutes or until you can stick a toothpick in them and it comes out clean.
Steps to make the Cupcake Frosting:
Add the butter and cocoa powder to a bowl or mixer and cream together starting slow. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream and mix. If the frosting appears to be too thick add a little more heavy cream until the desired consistency is reached.
Once the muffins have completely cooled, add the frosting as desired.

Non-stick cupcake liners were used for this recipe. I found them really useful for this recipe because I didn't have to add any additional cooking spray to my muffin pan.
