Pound Cakes can easily be frozen in whole form or in slices. The cake will remain fresh for approximately three months when stored correctly.
Freezing a whole pound cake or pound cake slices only requires a couple of materials and a few easy steps. I usually have leftover pound cake that I save for my family. I wrap it in heavy duty foil and store it in a ziplock bag in my deep freezer until I'm ready to deliver it. Freeze your pound cake for no more than three months for the best result and freshness. So let's get into it!

Materials needed to freeze a Pound Cake:
A knife (for cutting the cake if freezing slices)
Foil (Heavy duty preferred)
Gallon ziplock bags
How to Freeze a Pound Cake:
First, let the cake cook completely and allow any icing/frosting to dry and/or set on the cake. Label your ziplock bags with the name of the pound cake and the date the cake is being stored.
To freeze the cake whole:
Tear off a large piece of foil (large enough to cover the entire cake). Place the cake onto the foil and wrap the entire cake in the foil. It may require using multiple pieces of foil. Double-wrap the cake in foil and place it in the freezer. Another option is to single-wrap the pound cake and then place it in a large plastic bag.
Another method that can be used to freeze a whole cake is to place the cake on a baking sheet, cover it with foil, and place it in the freezer. If your freezer is too small to freeze the cake in this manner, another method is to place the pound cake on a cake board, wrap it in foil, and then place it in the freezer. No matter which method you choose, it's most important to use heavy-duty foil. It will create a much better seal than just using regular foil.
If you don't have heavy duty foil and absolutely want to use regular foil, I recommend first wrapping the cake in plastic wrap and then wrap it in the regular foil. Press N Seal wrap is also another option to use instead of plastic wrap.
To freeze the cake slices:
Cut your cake slices as desired. Tear off a section of foil and place three to four slices, or however many you choose onto the foil. Tightly wrap the slices in the foil, then place the cake into your ziplock bag.
Another option other than storing the cake in a ziplock bag is a large plastic container.
As with the whole pound cake, the cake slices also may be wrapped in plastic wrap and then wrapped in regular foil. Press N Seal wrap is also another option to use instead of plastic wrap.
Freeze the pound cake for up to three months for the best result.
Can all Pound Cakes be stored in the freezer?
Yes, even pound cakes with icing or frosting. It's key to make sure that the cake is completely cooled and the icing has fully set before freezing the pound cake.
How to Thaw Pound Cakes
The pound cake can be thawed two different ways, by transferring the cake from the freezer to the refrigerator or from the freezer to the counter. When I want to eat the cake as quickly as possible, I remove the cake from the freezer, take it out of the ziplock bag, but leave it in the foil and place it on the counter.
It is very important to leave the cake wrapped in foil especially if it is frosted or glazed so that the frosting/glaze does not pull away from the cake. For the most part, this is not an issue.
My cake usually thaws on the counter in one hour or a little over that depending on the temperature of my home. If thawing in the refrigerator, it's best to remove the cake from the freezer the day before consuming as it will take longer for the cake to thaw out using this method.

How should I store the Pound Cake after removing it from the freezer?
The cake can be stored in the refrigerator or on the counter for three to five days. Pound cakes that, for example, includes fruit in batter are best stored in the refrigerator.
