To make the brownies: Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Place the butter and ½ c of chocolate chips in a bowl. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals until melted. Stir together after each interval.
Add the sugars, cocoa, salt, and vanilla to the bowl and mix well.
Add the eggs and mix until combined.
Gradually add the flour mixing well after each addition. Pour the mixture into greased pan and bake for 25 minutes. Begin to prepare pecan pie topping during the last five minutes of the cooking process.
To make the pecan pie topping:
In a saucepan, melt the butter on low-medium heat.
Whisk in the brown sugar. Add the salt, cinnamon, heavy cream, corn syrup, and vanilla and stir until bubbling for approximately 4 minutes.
Fold in the pecans and pour the mixture over the brownies. Return the brownies to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
Remove the brownies from the oven and allow them to cool. The filling will continue to set as the brownies cool.
